About
Hi. I'm Greta Bush. I am a communications and marketing professional, trained in public relations, leadership, content marketing, SEO, and graphic design.
While I have years of experience in communications and marketing, much of what you will find on this site are examples of my design work. Art and design is something that I have always identified as being a part of me. My grandmother was an extremely talented painter, and both of my parents are also very creative. Painting and photography is something I have pursued since a young age.
After graduating from college with a major in religious studies and a minor in Spanish (I love the humanities), I served two years in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and worked for a few years managing volunteers as staff at Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County in Connecticut. I’ve always loved serving others and just generally learning about and connecting with people.
It was while I was working in Connecticut that I discovered graphic design. Mind blown. Recognizing that it was possible to have a career in art, I went back to school and studied graphic design. Following graduation and a couple of design internships, I worked for six years as communications coordinator at Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity in North Carolina doing a blend of graphic design and communications work. It was a perfect fit - I love people and community building, and I have a heart for the work that Habitat does. I was grateful to be able to blend that passion with my communications and graphic design skills.
From mid 2017 to mid 2019, my husband’s job relocated us to Syracuse, New York. There, I worked as marketing manager for Syracuse University (SU) in the Auxiliary Services business unit. My role there provided me incredible opportunities to grow and stretch in my career. Auxiliary Services consisted of six varied departments: University Bookstore / Housing, Meal Plan, I.D. Card Services / Food Services / Drumlins (golf course) / Minnowbrook Conference Center / WAER (local NPR radio station).
While working, I also began earning a master’s degree in communications management through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at SU. I completed the degree in April 2021, and I can say with confidence that I am not the same person I was before starting the program. The coursework combines public relations, leadership, and business. The result is that now I view management through a new lens - it has changed and sharpened how I approach leadership and strategic thinking and has broadened my business acumen.
Today I contract with different companies and organizations and offer an array of services, depending on the opportunity. I offer marketing leadership, graphic design, search engine optimization (SEO), blog writing, and more. To keep things fun, on rare occasion I will even go back to my first love and offer light construction services. ;-)
Please contact me at greta.bush@gmail.com if you want to talk about how we can work together.
